Announcing SACI’s New Florence Artist/Scholar Residency Program


Studio Art Centers International is pleased to announce an exciting new residence opportunity open to artists or scholars currently teaching at a college or university that is a member of the SACI Consortium. Member institutions are listed here.

Beginning this summer SACI will offer in June a month-long residency in Florence, Italy to an artist or scholar. The recipient of this award will have the unique opportunity to live and work in one of the world’s great art cities—and to interact with SACI’s faculty and students and participate in diverse school activities.

The residency includes a fully-equipped one-bedroom apartment in the historic center of Florence, near SACI’s two Renaissance palazzi. This year the apartment will be available from June 3 to June 27. The award recipient will also receive studio or office space at SACI, access to the SACI Worthington Library, and have the opportunity to participate in SACI field trips to PisaLuccaSan GimignanoSienaFiesoleArezzo and other important sites in Tuscany.

Eligibility: Applicants must currently be full-time instructors, on a permanent basis, at a SACI Consortium member institution.

  • Full academic and artistic curriculum vitae
  • Statement of intent (including a description of the work intended during the residency)
  • Artists Only: 10-20 JPEG images at a resolution of 72 dpi which must be no larger than 600 pixels in the longest direction

Deadline for submissions: April 10, 2014.

The award recipient will be announced on the SACI website on April 18.
