Bianco-Valente: “Tu sei qui”

Following the success of its first two events with the artists Franco Menicagli and Kinkaleri, the Palazzo Strozzi Contemporaneo project is now hosting Tu sei qui (You Are Here), a site-specific environmental installation designed by artistic duo Bianco-Valente.

Bianco-Valente use their work to explore such universal human themes as the relationship between body and mind, or between collective history and personal perception. In this installation, produced specifically for the Palazzo Strozzi Courtyard, the Neapolitan artists reflect on the concept of experience, on the dynamic of choice and on the pressures and influences that determine it. A large reflecting wall erected in the center of the Courtyard bears the legend “you are here” on both sides, a direct and simple statement echoing the words frequently found on city maps or building plans. The wall is complemented by a diagram on the ground, shaped by lights projected from above, evoking an abstract and symbolic visualisation of personal experience, of the choices and events that people and shape our existence.

Bianco-Valente have always interpreted personal and collective history as a network, a connecting fabric that redefines the environment around us and that is defined by that environment in its turn. Through the Palazzo Strozzi Courtyard experience, Tu sei qui (You Are Here) offers a metaphorical depiction of life between limitations and choices, individual pathways and happenstance.

The installation will be visible until Sunday 25 January 2015.
Free admission. Open daily 9am-8pm, Thursday until 11pm.
