Notte Bianca/Black Night – “White Night” in Florence, all night long: April 30, 2015

Notte Bianca Firenze 2015

Notte Bianca Firenze 2015For the 6th year in a row, Florence celebrates all night long for the annual Notte Bianca festival on Wednesday, April 30, 2015. What happens during the white night? First of all, one must understand what a white night is in Italian. This expression refers to when you don’t sleep most of the night! Spring has already sprung, so its time to celebrate with special festivities, free concerts in the streets and piazzas, dancing and performances, museums open late, art installations, projections, and shops and restaurants tempting you into the wee hours of the night.

The night is black. To find the “white,” or the light, you must first travel through all the gradations of color, mystery and magnetism found in black. This year’s theme, The Black Night, is inspired by music, especially the Afro-american styles of blues, jazz, gospel, funk, and rap, with live music all around town. Other events will concentrate on children’s activities, the re-use of temporary spaces, and the introduction to little-known artisan locations around the city. For a full program calendar and map of locations, see the Notte Bianca Firenze official website.
