Deborah Zlotsky: Ephemera
July 2-30, 2015
SACI Gallery, Florence – ITALY
An exhibition of 2D art works by DEBORAH ZLOTSKY (USA), winner of SACI’s first International Art Exhibition Award 2015 opened last Thursday in the SACI Gallery in SACI’s historic Palazzo dei Cartelloni.
Deborah took a detour from her usual direction of work and created this exhibition specifically for the SACI Gallery. Inspired by Italy and the traditions of Arte Povera, she has created collage work from everyday materials, enjoying the chance to manipulate surfaces and relationships, yet embracing the ephemeral and peculiar qualities of quotidian products like paper towels, newspapers, and plastic bags. In her current artistic research, Deborah works in a responsive way to build relationships, and while doing so has discovered working with found materials intensifies the performative aspects of this approach, as the fragility of the materials can only absorb a limited amount of alteration.
