balloFilotondo is the title of the installation that will be created by artist and SACI instructor, Lorenzo Pezzatini for the BARIS’ARTE FESTIVAL 2015 in Sardinia.

The ballo tondo is a traditional circular dance typical in the public squares of Sardinia. Here it is re-interpreted visually and symbolically using modern materials, industrially produced, such as duct tape, and given life and vibrancy by the printed design of the Filo that is represented in all of the work by Pezzatini since 1977.

balloFilotondo is a round shape that begins with a central octagonal mirror and unfolds in eight alternating segments, in which eight human shapes appear from the negative space, each connected by their hands, dancing and expressing friendship and union, in turn, forming a symbolic star.

The work will be presented on Sunday, September 20 in the Centro Civico “Jorge Eielson e Michele Mulas” (Piazza Repubblica/del Mercato) after being created by Pezzatini in situ together with children and students from the community.

Lorenzo PezzatiniLorenzo Pezzatini graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1981 with a Master of Fine Art. He currently teaches and directs the Post-Baccalaureate Program at Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence. Since 1977 he has a passion and a “life partner” which is also the core of his artistic production, the Filo: a stringy object made of acrylic paint in primary colors (blue, yellow, red) counterpointed by small growths.

Pezzatini is a performer, a producer of signs and indications, using the Filo as a connection, to underline and reinvent the world around him. Interaction with an audience and the public’s social value is the central element of his artistic research. Directing the viewer’s attention to contemporary sociability, his works force us to reconsider the “reality” of an ordinary moment in an ordinary life in an attempt to build a bridge between the world of the everyday and the extraordinary spirituality of art.
