Curated by Dejan Atanackovic and Alessandro Fantechi

The third exhibition of the Body Archives project, developed in collaboration between SACI and the Museum of Natural History in Florence, is focused on the theme of constructed otherness and scientific display.

The Body Archives students and the participants in the special project Theater, Body and Diversity approached the theme through museum visits, but also through a dialogue with the migrant street vendors and psychiatric patients.

As part of a Portable Museum Project, Body Archives students gathered things, notes and photographs that document a material culture, objects for sale or exchange, as well as personal stories of the African street vendors in Florence.

The objects and spaces of the museum, over the semester, have become part of young artists’ installations. The works include (re)compositions of zoological taxidermies stored in museum’s offices and storage spaces, collected documentary material, video and sound works, prints and objects.

The event opens with a performance developed in collaboration with the psychiatric daily center Fili e Colori.

Working on gestures, sounds, spoken texts, with SACI students Zeina, Molly, Noah and Leon, Alessandro Fantechi, theater director and actors Leonardo, Vincenza, Pippo, Giancarlo, Ilda, Loredana. Photos by Eleonora Chiti.

The exhibition includes a special sound piece – an audio walk through the collection of the world famous anatomical wax models.
