Katie Pumphrey (SACI alum, Spring 2008) loved every moment of her time spent in Florence at SACI. In 2015 she decided to take the plunge to be a full-time artist and recently moved to Washington DC, where she has been busy making new work in her studio. In 2015, she completed over 50 new drawings + paintings, and can’t wait to see what 2016 brings. Her oil paintings and drawings investigate the primal instinct to be competitive.

On top of her art career, she is also an open water swimmer, and this past August (2015), she successfully swam the English Channel! To read more about her English Channel swim visit: or see
