Hexahedron & More

Spoken Word Performance & Open Mic

Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30pm
Via Sant’Egidio, 33r – Florence, Italy

For the closing evening of pop-up exhibition showcase Hexahedron & More (see images below), Fadi Daoud Private Studio presents a spoken-word performance hosted by three international writers currently based in Florence. The night will continue with an open mic event, encouraging writers of all levels and styles to participate.

Featuring live music by Nadia Koski.

Performing Writers who will be Showcased:

Baret Magarian is from London, is of Armenian origin and lives in Florence. He has worked as a freelance journalist and as a musician. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Observer, World Literature Today, Journal of Italian Translation, Sagarana, and Panurge.

He will be reading a selection of poems and prose that explore the periphery – the fringes – of experience. Those things that are cast in perpetual shadow.

Marisa Garreffa is an Australian actress and writer who’s been living in Florence for three years. You can see her performing in The Medici Dynasty Show and find her writing in Openhouse Magazine and online. She is the founder and frequent host of the Open Mic Nights at Tasso Hostel on the first Wednesday of every month!

Tonight’s piece is the opening of her first book, a memoir, due for release late 2017 if she ever manages to meet her deadlines.

Lee Foust (SACI’s Creative Writing Instructor) hails from Northern California. He lives under a bridge spanning the Mugnone. He’s currently using a paper cup, but hopes to upgrade to tin one of these days. He is the author of two books: Sojourner, stories and poems about the mystery of place and Poison and Antidote, Bohemian tales of San Francisco from the Reagan era.

Tonight he will perform three or four Paradoxa, prose poems exploring the possibility that we are all wrong about everything, while banging on a drum. (It’s therapeutic as well as entertaining!)

SACIHexahedron & More features SACI students in MFA in Studio Art and MFA in Photography: Fadi Daoud, Lisa Fracica, Leon Jones, Amaan Khalid, Trevor Micah, April Moon, Rebecca Morris, Ana Lìa Orézzoli, Lindakay Papadakis, Keri Rosebraugh, Jessie Taylor, Meredith Taylor, Hana Sackler, Meaghan Sweeney, together with Khaldoon Daoud, and Loai Daoud.
