Uffizi Gallery – Florence, Italy

Through April 10, 2016

For the first time the Uffizi Gallery is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the King of Pop, Andy Warhol. Inaugurated on March 4th, photographic portraits of the artist can be viewed through April 10, 2016.

Andy Warhol Photographed by Aurelio Amendola, New York 1977 and 1986 is a small but significant exhibition of 10 portraits – 8 color and 2 black and white images – by Pistoia photographer Aurelio Amendola, during two visits to the Factory in New York.

Two photographs – one of which was taken just months before Warhol’s death – will be donated to the Uffizi Gallery, and will become part of the Uffizi collections, selected by the former director, Antonio Natali.

According to the Director of the Uffizi, Eike Schmidt, this donation is significant because it will enrich two sections of the Gallery: that of 20th-century art and that of portraits of artists executed by other artists, which is closely linked to that of self-portrait collection (the Uffizi possesses the largest and oldest collection of self-portraits).

Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8:15am to 6:50pm, with a general ticket to the Uffizi Gallery, Piazzale degli Uffizi, Florence.
