Gravity for All: New artists’ network without borders

Villa Romana

Nobody is a refugee by profession.

Artists who had to leave their place of everyday life and work and who are now in a state of transition need to reconstruct their artistic practice in a maybe completely changed context. There is no system of assistance for such a difficult period in life – if we don’t create it.

Nobody even knows how many artists and from where reached Italy or another European country during the past years.

Friends in Germany started already months ago to build up a network (News and Offers in Culture) – first of simple contacts, then of personal exchange and meetings in order to get to know each other and to understand better what is needed – in order to initiate a human and artistic network of cooperation between local / regional artists, those who just arrived and possible supporters.

Gravity for All would like to extend this network without borders.

Gravity for All

If you are an artist or you know an artist – visual artist, musician, writer, dancer, professional from theater – who arrived in Italy for reasons of migration you are invited to contact Gravity:

Gravity for All wants to create a network between artists who just arrived in Italy / Europe and those who are already living in Italy. The goal to spread information about how to move as an artist in Italy / Europe, about residencies, grants, associations, etc.

It is not easy to organize your life as an artist and it is not easy to understand how it works, especially in Italy. Gravity also wants to create a platform between artists to share knowledge, critique, inspiration and understanding and to present their own works. Hopefully, appointments in real life will follow…(with Hope)

Gravity for All was initiated by Villa Romana ( in collaboration with Radio Papesse (

Villa Romana began this initiative as a non-profit artists’ residency and center for contemporary art in Florence. Villa Romana’s purpose is to support contemporary artists since its foundation in 1905. Today our attention is not any more limited to a north-south perspective but interested in the Mediterranean art world in 360 degrees. “As a German institution, we are guests ourselves in Italy and – at the same time – in close exchange with the German art world.”
