March 8: Festa della Donna (International Women’s Day) Free Museum Entrance for Women in Florence


International Women’s Day: March 8

Saints and prostitutes, goddesses and commoners, intellectuals and artists, actresses and martyrs, writers and poets, mothers, Madonnas and revolutionaries, March 8th is a day to celebrate the feminine world, through its most significant representations in art, putting the spotlight on the lives of women who have made history.

To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 — or Festa della Donna as it is known in Italy — in Florence the Mimosa flower symbolizes the commemoration, and women have free entrance to the civic and state museums around the city. Here is the list for 2017:

Hours 9am-7pm (25 people every 30 minutes with last entrance at 6:30pm)

Torre di Arnolfo at the Palazzo Vecchio
Hours 10am-5pm (30 people every 30 minutes with last entrance at 4:30pm)

Santa Maria Novella
Piazza S.Maria Novella & Piazza Stazione 4
Hours 9am-5:30pm

Museo Novecento

Museo del Bigallo

Free guided tours every half hour from 4:30-6:30pm

Ticket offices (even for free tickets) closes 1 hour before museum closures.
