I Can Reach You (From One to Many)

I can reach you (from one to many) is a project that reflects on the idea of ‘meeting’, observed on linguistic, emotional, relational and political levels.
In an exchange of gestures, forms, actions, responsibilities and perspectives, the artists’ pathways intersect for a project that will develop between October 2015 and March 2016 through work created during several periods of residence at the Tenuta Dello Scompiglio. The interventions, all closely linked to the context in which they are presented, yet projected towards an expanded horizon, were born from a reflection on place, the perception of belonging, and the physical, mental and imagined crossing of spaces.
In line with the broader dynamics of the three artists’ research, the projects presented in I can reach you (from one to many) seek to develop the function of artistic practice into an open and interrogative process.
I can reach you is a collective meditation developed between the artists and curators questioning a possible position and the relations of exchange with surroundings, people, things. Bianco-Valente present an environmental installation centered on the resonances that all entities have between them and how these interact or influence our relationships. Claudia Losi, on the other hand, works on sensory places (landmarks) encountered along a walk to Scompiglio, places that become, either due to their own physical characteristics or due to events taking place, including distant landmarks, points of geographical-emotional density. “The idea is that the landmark is often created by us from scratch, in the experience that we have of a place, of passing through it”. Lastly, Valerio Rocco Orlando, following a workshop focused on the idea of the wandering pilgrim and hospitality as a relational moment, creates an itinerant structure that moves along different stages of the Via Francigena, giving rise to, and in turn, leaving traces of its passage.
On October 3rd, an inaugural event will present the current state of these reflections, which will be further articulated over the following months with contributions from artists of other disciplines, to create an expanded, organic, heterogeneous fabric. The space of the exhibition will expand geographically, according to the program, which combines curatorial design with concerns of the artists, expanding beyond the confines of the Dello Scompiglio estate and multiplying with time, requiring new updates to the public. A calendar of these events will be announced later.
Bianco-Valente
Giovanna Bianco was born in Latronico (Potenza) in 1962; Pino Valente was born in Napoli in 1967. They live in Napoli. Active since 1995, they work mainly with new media. Their research investigates issues that arise in the relationship between art and science: the human body in its entirety (mental-intangible/corporeal-biological molecular), human perception and space-time, memory.
Claudia Losi
Born in Piacenza in 1971, she studied at the Bologna Fine Arts Accademy and at the Faculty of Foreign Language and Literature. She participates in workshops and study courses in Italy and overseas. Her research focuses on the relationship of man to his surroundings, and between the individual and the community.
Valerio Rocco Orlando
Born in Milano in 1978, graduated in Dramaturgy at the Catholic University of Milan followed by a Master’s Degree in Directing at Queen Mary University of London. He began his artistic career composing articulated installations, videos, films, photography and artists’ books that, balancing choral dialogue and intimist painting, present the relationship between the individual and the community, in order to explore and rethink the sense of belonging to contemporary society.
Two of the curators are instructors at SACI: Daria Filardo and Pietro Gaglianò.
